Technology is helping truck companies to be safer and reverse the negative trends of the past. In a recent report on trucking fatalities it’s claimed that “New crash avoidance technology being installed in freight trucks and passenger vehicles could help bring down the number of injury and fatal crashes in years to come. ATA also says lower speed limits and a national mandate to mechanically limit truck speeds to 65 miles per hour would help.” In the US truck fatalities are on the decline, but there is still a long way to go as crashes have actually been on the increase. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s latest Large Truck and Bus Crash Facts gives plenty of insight to these trends.
